Making art has been a passion and a way to define myself since my early teens, and more current exposure and practice teaching has given me the opportunity to share the wealth and enrichment that the visual language of art has provided for me throughout the years.
At Western Kentucky University, I have taught art concepts and development of technical skills in beginning and advanced studio classes. Every semester I have also taught auditorium-size Art Appreciation classes to students of diverse interests. Teaching such large lecture classes has been very useful in learning how to compile just the right amount of information and present it to students whose first exposure in art awareness may be a memorable experience that would hopefully promote an appreciation and sensitivity to the aesthetic in our world.
In my classes, I emphasize that art and creativity can relate to aspects such as diversity, confidence and communication.
Through the visual language of art, I have found the most direct way of communicating. I enjoy sharing my experiences from other parts of the world, as well as giving examples from my path of development as a professional artist. My works often contain an accumulation of cultural symbols and narrative visual poetry. Inspiration and motivation are two concepts that have shaped me into a positive and multi-faceted individual. I aim to relate concepts in art, historical information and real world artistic experiences to students in an engaging way, using lectures in PowerPoint formats, videos and sequentially structured handout materials, each catering to the individual group of students.
